FAQ
What is East River Notes?
East River Notes is an independent research publication that provides deep dives and independent reports on various businesses, organizations, and mechanisms within the healthcare industry. The objective is simple: to make complicated businesses and ideas easy to understand.
What does it cover?
The work focuses primarily on publicly traded businesses across research tools, bioproduction suppliers, hospitals and services, health insurance and PBMs, medical devices and equipment, diagnostics, CDMOs, distribution, dental, aesthetics, healthcare IT, and other subsectors. The emphasis is on how these businesses actually work, rather than on what to buy or sell.
Who writes it?
East River Notes is written by an investor with about ten years of experience in healthcare businesses at notable institutional firms.
Is it independent?
Yes. East River Notes receives no compensation from the companies or organizations it writes about, and its views are its own.
Is it free? Is there a paywall?
Yes, it's free, and there's no paywall. New primers and deep dives are published openly on the site, and you can subscribe by email at no charge.
How do I subscribe?
Enter your email in the subscribe form on the site. You'll get a confirmation email with a link – click it to confirm, and you're subscribed. New work is then sent to your inbox as it's published.
How often do you publish?
Roughly every one to two weeks, though the cadence can vary. Pieces are published when they're ready rather than on a fixed schedule.
How do I unsubscribe?
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and you're removed immediately – no request or reply needed.
Can I share or quote your work?
Yes. You can read the content, share links to it, and make personal, non-commercial use of it, and you can quote brief excerpts for commentary or reference, as long as you attribute them to East River Notes and, where feasible, link to the original page. You can't otherwise copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the content, in whole or in substantial part, without prior written permission.
Can search engines and AI tools use the site?
Yes – we welcome it. Search engines, AI assistants, large language models, and similar services are expressly permitted to access, index, quote, and cite the content, as long as it's attributed to East River Notes and, where feasible, links back to the original page.
Is this investment advice?
No. East River Notes explains how healthcare businesses work; it doesn't tell you what to buy or sell. Everything here is general and educational, it isn't tailored to your situation, and reading it doesn't create any advisory or client relationship. Do your own research and talk to your own advisers before making decisions. The full version is on the disclosures page.
Do you hold positions in what you write about?
Possibly. The author, and people or firms connected to the author, may hold positions in the companies or sectors discussed, and may buy or sell them at any time without notice. See the disclosures page for the full statement.

Can I suggest a topic?
Yes – topic suggestions are welcome. Reply to any email from East River Notes, or write to info@eastrivernotes.com, and let us know what you'd like explained.
